Dear Parents of Algebra AB Students,

We are very glad that your child has enrolled in Algebra AB. Algebra AB is also known as Algebra I. This course is the foundation course in the college prep math sequence. This is a great opportunity for your student to learn key math concepts for high school and college while still in middle school.

We want your child to have a very positive and successful academic year.  In order to promote and motivate students to strive to have a good academic year, we are requiring students enrolled in Algebra AB to achieve and maintain a minimum grade of “C” in the class. Those students who earn grades lower than a “C” do not have the mastery needed for success in future math courses.

Algebra AB class is designed to challenge students who are high achieving and motivated. Students have to be responsible and studious to keep up with the demands of this class. This class is a college prep course and counts as part of the record for college admission.

Students who fail to maintain the minimum grade of “C” may have to drop Algebra AB and move to Algebra A (the first semester of Algebra I). This is to ensure that students have the mastery of Algebra needed to be successful in Geometry, Algebra II, and Calculus. If a student moves to Algebra A, they will most likely take Algebra B as a 9th grader in high school.

Please encourage and support your child to do their best work in this class. Should it become necessary to change your child’s schedule, we will contact you.

Thank you for your support.

Mr. McCoy
